Grant Imahara, most famous for being one of the co-hosts of the popular “Mythbusters” on Discovery Channel, has passed away today.
At the age of 49, a brain aneurysm is cited as the cause of his death.
A spokesperson from Discovery Channel confirmed the news of the tragic death, saying that Imahara was an important and beloved member in the channel who was liked and respected by everyone near him. The channel, where he found his greatest success, prayed for his eternal rest.
Imahara began his professional career under Lucasfilm as an engineer. He worked in the THX and ILM divisions that specializes in special effects that is used for movie and TV productions.
He joined “Mythbusters” in its third season in 2005. He continued to co-host the show until 2014 when he and two other co-hosts left the show. In 2016, the old crew reunited for the Netflix produced “White Rabbit Project”, a show that was warmly received by the fans of the previous show.
Imahara was also an avid fan and active member of the robotics community. Prior to hosting the popular show on Discovery, Imahara often appeared on “BattleBots” with his robot Deadblow. Because he was such a constant presence, he later returned as a judge to the program.
Adam Savage, who co-hosted “Mythbusters” with Imahara, expressed his lost and condolences via his Twitter account. As he recalled a 22 year friendship, Savage recalled how Imahara was not only an extremely talented professional, but also one of the nicest friends to be around.
Kari Byron, who often appeared on the same segment with Imahara, was more succinct yet emotional with her words. Posting a picture of the trio, she simply wrote that there are days that she wishes there was a time machine.
This is not the first tragedy that the extended “Mythbusters” family is going through. Back in August 2019, another co-host and professional racer Jessi Combs passed away after a lethal accident claimed his life while he was performing a stunt.
Savage, perhaps the most famous of all the co-hosts, has recently been sued by his sister who alleged that he sexually assaulted her in their childhood. Savage has vehemently denied the allegations.
We send our thoughts and greatest condolences to Imahara’s friends and loved ones. Join us in the comments, and share this story with your friends.
