A Brazilian woman who was spotted knocking a Trump supporter’s MAGA hat off his head in a viral video will soon be deported to her country after Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents picked her up on Tuesday.
Rosiane Santos, who had been living illegally in the US, kicked up a row with Bryton Turner, 23, at Casa Vallarta Mexican restaurant in Falmouth, Massachusetts.
It was when Turner started recording his confrontation with the 41-year-old woman as she grabbed his hat and hurled abuses at him.
In the footage recorded by Turner, Santos can be seen knocking his MAGA hat off his head.
‘See this right here? This is the problem,’ the young man says in the video. ‘Ignorant people like this. I’m just trying to sit here and eat a nice meal.’
Later in the footage, police officials can be seen arresting Santos as Turner taunts her, saying: ‘Rosie’s not doing too hot right now. I don’t know what happened.
‘She was trying to grab my hat in front of four officers. That’s not smart. Now she’s getting cuffed. Have a nice night in the cell, Rosie.’
The woman defended herself after the incident, claiming she was provoked.
‘I had a little bit to drink maybe that’s the reason that I couldn’t walk away but being discriminated for so many times in my life, I just had to stand up for myself.’ she told Boston 25. ‘He’s not a victim. I am the victim. I have been bullied, okay?’
Santos was first arrested by police on February 15 on the charges of assault, battery and disorderly conduct.
Later, she was sent into the custody of ICE on Tuesday after it was revealed that Santos was an ‘unlawfully present citizen’ in the US.
‘Santos is currently facing local charges for assault and other offenses,’ John Mohan, a spokesman for ICE, told CBS News. ‘She is presently in ICE custody and has been entered into removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts.’
Though the woman has been temporarily released from ICE custody, she will be tried for illegal immigration.
ICE has deported over 256,000 people last year. While it seems a huge number, it is still less than the number of people who were deported every year during the Obama administration.
Speaking of how people get offended on seeing Make America Great Again hat, Turner told WBZ that MAGA hat is ‘just a hat at the end of the day.’
‘I don’t really understand why people can’t just express themselves anymore, everybody has to get mad,’ he said.
