An Indian man has won the hearts of millions across the globe after proposing to his girlfriend whose face got disfigured in an accident.
Jayaprakash P., commonly called Jai, is a handsome young man who met the love of his life, Sunitha Nair, during their last year in high school.
“I don’t know why I was looking at her,” Jai said recalling the first time he saw her.
“She was late to class. She came in, walked in and went to her seat. Till that moment, my eyes were on her. The next day when I met her, she started with a heart felt ‘good morning.’”
The young teens then became good friends and started spending a lot of time together.
“We shared lessons together, food together, everything together, just that I didn’t know the feelings he had for me,” said Sunitha.
After they had graduated, they lost track of each other for a few years, but as fate would’ve it, they again came into contact via social media.
However, their love blossomed when Sunitha called him on his birthday and they started meeting again.
“My heart started beating like the 17-year-old I was,” Jai recalled.
“The call lasted only two minutes but for me, it was like eternity. We stayed in touch occasionally, but soon got busy with our lives.”
Unfortunately, Sunitha got involved in a terrible accident when she was driving home one day.
She was partly out of her side window as her car rolled and skidded on the road and her face scraped along the pavement for several meters.
Her body remained unhurt but her beautiful face was completely destroyed.
When Jai heard about the incident, he rushed to the hospital and upon seeing her face, he broke into tears. The man cried so hard that even Sunitha felt sorry for him.
“I thought it would be something minor, so I called her two days later. I did not recognize the voice that answered,” he recalled.
“When I went to visit, I saw a person with no hair, a disfigured face, no nose, no mouth and no teeth, walking like a 90-year-old. I was stunned. I broke down.
“That moment, I realized that I love her.”
A devastated Jai returned home to a restless state where he was neither able to sleep nor do anything else except thinking about the girl he loved. That same day, Jai had reached the most important decision of his life.
“My feelings towards her hadn’t changed. I knew she was the girl for me. Nothing else mattered. The next day, I proposed,” said Jai.
The man didn’t wait and proposed her the very next day. Sunitha, who was shocked at the sudden proposal thought he was joking and starting laughing aloud.
“I said ‘let’s get married’ and then I said, ‘I’m in love with you’,” Jai recalled.
After she was released from the hospital, Jai visited her at her home. “It was 3 o’clock in the afternoon and she was waiting at the terrace in her house and I went there,” Jai recalled.
He prepared 3 roses to give to Sunitha, proposed her again and said: “let’s get married.”
“I said yes,” Sunitha recalled. “I was the happiest woman on earth that day.”
The couple is now living a happy life and shares two beautiful children. They named their first baby girl Atmia which means “my soul.”
Jai cannot be any happier in his life. “Today, I am married to my teenage crush,” he said.
“She became my love. Love isn’t about a face or imposed conditions or external beauty. It is a connection of souls. It feels right.
“All I know is that I love her to the moon and back, infinity and beyond, forever.”
