A 25-year-old man passed away due to a cheap gastric band operation after he went to Turkey.
His mother said that the operation was to stop him from gaining weight during Christmas.
Joe Thornley, who is a professional builder, underwent a £3000 surgery ($3900), when he weighed around 22 stone and was desperate to become thin, lose fat and restrict how much he used to eat.
Joe took a flight from the UK and landed in the capital city of Turkey, Istanbul on December 9th ahead of his gastric sleeve operation.
But once the 2-hour surgery was completed, the 25-year-old Joe texted his mother Julie by saying that he is experiencing a great deal of pain.
His mother told him to ask the hospital to provide him with some painkillers. Therefore, it was the last words she got to exchange with her youngest son.
Neither did Julie nor her 57-year-old husband Michael heard from Joe for the past two days, so, they quickly assumed that he was doing well and was recovering.
But Julie was devasted to learn that her son died, when police showed up at her home in South Normanton, Derbyshire where she used to live with Joe.
However, the death certificated issued in Turkey, ruled out Joe’s death as a natural cause, but the post-mortem that took place in the UK, tells a different story.
It was revealed that Joe’s death was caused due to internal bleeding right after the surgery. Joe’s mother was heartbroken, and she said it’s really tough and horrible at the same.
Joe was supposed to get the surgery done within a week, and by Friday he was supposed to return home.
Julie also warned others who were thinking of taking a similar operation as she clearly stated that they do not want another family to be on the situation that she and her family is going through.
