A 77-year-old prisoner considered ‘too old to be a threat’ was freed after serving in prison for 25 years for stabbing his wife 14 times in front of their child in 1979.
Albert Flick has been jailed again for killing another woman in a similar method.
He was freed after serving for 25 years in 2004 but he went back to prison in 2010 for assaulting another woman. He was released again in 2014 as he was deemed too old to be a threat.
But in 2018, Flick stabbed 48-year-old Kimberly Dobbie 11 times while her young children watched in horror. He was convicted of murder and will be likely to spend the rest of his life in jail.
Assistant Attorney General Bud Ellis said to jurors that Flick knew Dobbie was about to leave town and he thought: “If I can’t have her, I will kill her.”
Several days before the attack, the 77-year-old followed the homeless mother and her children around the town where they were staying, a local library, bus shelter to Dunkin’ Donuts. He bought knives from Walmart and waited until the sidewalk was clear.
Dobbie’s friends said that the mother tolerated his affection but didn’t want it.
She was stabbed so many times that it pierced her lung and heart. Her 11-year-old twin sons saw the killing and the attack was caught on CCTV.
The jury took only 40 minutes to find Flick guilty. He didn’t give any explanation for the killing.
Flick’s daughter with the wife he stabbed is now an adult. She said: “The boys are the ones that are going to live with it. I think the judge should explain to them, tell them, tell them how come they had to watch their mother be slaughtered on the street.”
