An Instagram couple has been slammed after requesting over $10,000 from strangers to fund their African adventure because they refuse to get a job and pay for the expenses themselves.
In order to keep their traveling lifestyle up-to-date, Germany-based Elena Engelhardt and Catalin Onc have been relying on Catalin’s mother who is forced to work two jobs to help the married couple pay for their expenses.
Now that their mother is drained, the couple also set up a GoFundMe page where they requested their fans to donate money to help them pull through with their plans.
The young couple intends to raise over $10,000 in order to go on a tandem bike ride across Africa in the following month. The people, however, weren’t too thrilled to contribute after the youths revealed that “getting a job is not an option” they would be willing to take.
“Some will just tell us to get jobs, like everyone else and stop begging. But when you have the impact we do on others’ life, getting a job is not an option,” the couple wrote.
“We could model and make fast money, but we don’t want to advertise consumerism. A normal job at this point would be detrimental.”
According to MailOnline, the couple also revealed they rely on the man’s mother’s funds to continue their lifestyle.
“At this very moment, my mother is funding us, she works two jobs and has not much herself. We didn’t ask her for money but she loves that she is able to help,” Catalin allegedly said.

After the couple’s plea went viral, people couldn’t help but shame the couple for requesting the money from those who actually have to work to survive.
“I’m confused your page is just pictures of you? How is that inspiring people? Feel real sorry for your mother. I’d say we could set up a GoFundMe for her but I feel like you would steal that money off her also,” one person wrote.
“Shame on both of you for using your parents. If u want this lifestyle, you work for it. Your mom has done more than her share. Don’t be so entitled,” another one added.
