The goalkeeper for the Iranian women’s soccer team has been accused of being a male by opposing team Jordan after the side lost out in a penalty shootout.
According to local media reports, Jordan has gone about calling the AFC or Asian Football Confederation as it opted to launch an investigation that would determine the real gender of Zohreh Koudaei.
The famous goalkeeper of the Iranian soccer team displayed a heroic performance after she went about saving a total of two penalties during a crucial match between the two nations. The allotted team Iran a wonderful win against Jordan in September.
But now, Jordan is slamming the Iranian side because it has doubts over the actual gender of the player, blasting her for being a man while being portrayed as a woman during play on the field.
Meanwhile, Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein who is Jordan’s Football Association President has gone on to add via a recent Tweet on Sunday how he thinks a gender verification test is necessary to help clear any doubts and put the matter to rest.
“We are requesting for a gender verification check upon Koudaei”- the statement mentioned.
On the other hand, the shocking allegations were described as beyond believable for many in Iran, including the country’s team selector Maryam Irandoost who immediately dismissed that allegation. In addition to that, she even spoke about how Jordan was using the allegation to cover up for their sad loss against Iran.
But the drama doesn’t end there as Jordan has reportedly gone on to allege that the Iranian women’s soccer team has previously had a number of similar issues regarding both gender and doping concerns.
Therefore, they believe moving ahead with the gender test is the best way to move forward and hence have gone on to request higher authorities to being the investigatory process immediately.
