An inventor has been accused of preying on desperate farmers after he claimed he created a device that can make rain start to fall and offered it to victims of drought for a staggering $50,000.
David Miles of the Miles Research is a controversial inventor who’s been trying to convince people that his device can manipulate the weather for almost two decades.
While he said he was definitely not trying to “con anyone,” Miles is now once again promoting his invention in drought-struck regions of Victoria among desperate farmers.
As for the ‘technology’ that sells for $50,000, Miles creates a 3-month contract which he claims to be based on “success.”
“The key to the whole thing is we’ve found a way to link a model of near future weather with the flight corridor of approaching weather… we’re able to upload adjustments into our cocoon, if you like, and see the adjustments,” the inventor said in an interview with news.com.au.
However, he refused to provide details on how the device works and said he didn’t have it patented because big corporations could try to steal his patent.
“I understand the skepticism, the only other way is to fully prove up our science and physics and peer review. If we did that we’ll lose it, it will be taken up as a national security interest and it’ll then be weaponized,” Miles added.
While the authorities accused the man of “preying on people’s desperation,” he defended his technology saying his clients are only required to pay if they are happy with the results – if the device really provides rain.
“They signed the agreement that if by the end of June they’d received 100mm, they pay $50,000, if they only receive 50mm, they would only pay $25,000. Anything under half we don’t want to be paid,” Miles explained.
As for the farmers who’ve given the mysterious device a try, some seem pretty convinced it actually works.
“I think the evidence is out there, you look at the forecast what’s meant to come and all of a sudden it increases dramatically. You know that he’s behind it and I reckon I haven’t seen such good crops in this district ever, everywhere,” one of them said.
