In Iran, a 103-year-old lady has recovered after she was infected with coronavirus, as the state media reports.
This news brings hope since there are so many evidences prevalent that elder generations are more at risk from Covid-19.
The unnamed woman was hospitalized in Semnan for almost a week. But she was discharged when she made a full recovery. This was confirmed by Navid Danai, the head of Semnan University of Medical Sciences.
This has been a second case where an elderly patient had completely recovered from the deadly disease in Iran.
The other one was a ninety-one-year-old man from Kerman.
He recovered on Monday after being sick for 3 days despite suffering from pre-existing medical conditions, such as asthma and high blood pressure. However, how these people were treated remains unrevealed.
Iran announced the first deaths in the country on 19th February and since then Covid-19 has claimed the lives of 1000 people and has spread to each province of the country.
The virus emerged in China at the end of 2019 and the older people are most vulnerable to coronavirus.
On Wednesday, the death toll in Iran surpassed 1,000 but President Hassan Rouhani still defended his administration’s response, which has not yet imposed a lockdown.
The coronavirus outbreak has been amongst the deadliest for any country except China.
The virus has claimed the lives of 1,135 people in the country and affected more than 17,300 cases as per the official figures. The Iranian government is taking necessary measures to control the outbreak in the country.
It has canceled Friday prayers, discouraging travel, closed all the universities and schools, and its four major Shiite pilgrimage sites.
As per WHO, the fatality rate of coronavirus is 3.4% but for those above 80 years, the rate is 21.9%.
