An Irate Passenger Spat On A Train Ticket Collector And She Dies of Coronavirus


A railway ticket collector died after getting infected with coronavirus post she was spat at by a passenger on the railway station.

47-year old Belly Mujinga who suffered from long-term respiratory issues died on April 15th, 2020, in the hospital. It was 13 days post the alleged assault that occurred at London’s Victoria Station.

The mother of a one-year-old along with her colleague was spat at by the passenger and contracted COVID-19. Their attacker is still unidentified.

While the colleague recovered from the virus, Mujinga’s condition got severe after she got ill. She died merely three days after she was admitted to the intensive care unit and placed on a ventilator.

Lusamba, her 60-year old husband and 11-year old daughter Ingrid, did not even have the chance to say a final goodbye to her.

The daughter spoke to her mother last on a video call when Mujinga was in the Barnet Hospital before she became too sick to talk.

The spokesperson of Boris Johnson said that it is an appalling and tragic case and they have reinforced the rules. The CPS has reported their guidance to make sure that people stay protected from such behaviour.

The whole incident is shocking and it is unimaginable what the victim’s family might be going through.

According to Lusamba, Belly had asked whether she could be shifted to back-office job after the threat of the virus became evident in March.

However, Thameslink, the employer who runs the services insisted on keeping her on the front where she had to deal with customers face-to-face prior to the government putting down social distancing measures.

Lamba who lives in Hendon, North London said that his partner had told her bosses about her health complications post an operation three years ago.

She was diagnosed with sarcoidosis, a skin condition that results in breath shortness, and constant dry cough. He is sure that his wife has contracted the virus from the passenger who spat on her.
