Louis Children’s Hospital has been under construction for a few years. For all those times, ironworkers have been distant friends to children at the hospital, which is right across from the construction field.

Vivian is one of the kids at the hospital. She was 2.5 years old when she was diagnosed with childhood leukemia. She was being treated at the hospital, and most of the time, she was isolated in her room.

The only way she could communicate with the outside world was through the window. She looked out the window every day and waved to the workers at the construction site.

One day, Vivian and her mother, Ginger, saw that the construction workers were pointing at something instead of just waving back. When they looked where they were pointing, they saw a very special message for Vivian written on one of the beams.

The message was written by construction workers Travis Barnes and Greg Combs, and they honestly had no idea how touching their gesture was for the family. The ironworkers and the family even got to meet in person.

Greg says, “it makes me happy that something so simple like that could make someone’s day better.”

Sometimes, what’s built isn’t in the blueprint. Travis and Greg’s message was not in the blueprint, but their unexpected and amazing message brought joy and happiness to Vivian’s family.
