For a student who has been working day and night to get his scores on the top in his exams will definitely be stumped and shattered to find out that rather than being in the list of toppers he has gained marks so less that he could only make to the list of the students who failed.
One such case happened in the state of Telangana in India which made 21 students of the states kill themselves and there are thousands of students affected by the same.
No the fault that got them into this situation was not there but of the IT software and the human recourses that were supposed to check their exam sheets.
According to the reports, a boy jumped in front of a train and another girl who had been in the same situation burned herself alive.
The stats say there were about 1 million students who had taken the exams and about 300,000 students have failed. The reason was not the students but the faulty IT software the government has used to correct the copies. The software reduced the marks down to one digit which was not acceptable to several students.
Father of one student said “My son has topped his college in his first year. He was the highest scorer and now he has gained his marks in just one digit. How do I make him understand what has happened? What if my son tries to hurt himself too? Who will be responsible for that?”
Students, as well as their parents, have come down to streets to protest against the government. The glitch is that the government is charging no money for rechecking of these copies but the company they are giving these copies to is charging the government for rechecking.
The Chief Minister of the state, Mr. Chandrashekhar Rao tried to motivate the students by saying that failing on a sheet of paper does not mean that you have failed in life. You still can do so much with your life.
