95-year-old Alma Clara Corsini was rushed to a hospital on March 5 after developing signs of coronavirus.
She became the oldest patient in Italy to recover from the disease that took the lives of more than 5,000 people in the country.
Doctors have confirmed the grandmother made a full recovery and her body has shown a ‘great reaction.’
In an interview with Italian newspaper Gazzetta Di Modena, Ms. Corsini said: “Yes, yes, I’m fine. They were good people who looked after me well, and now they’ll send me home in a little while.”
The pensioner has returned home after staying in the hospital since March 5.
Doctors at the hospital also said that Ms. Corsini managed to recover without ‘antiviral therapy.’ She also became the ‘pride of the staff’ during her stay at the facility.
One internet user commented: “Oh bless her! What courage, what fortitude! Well done, Dr’s, nurses, family and most importantly, well done to you, Mrs Corsini. Virtual love and hugs from Australia.”
Another wrote: “Hurrah!!! We need more stories about people recovering, esp. those who are the most vulnerable.”
A third said: “What a lovely photo you can see how happy the staff are when there has been so much death. There is hope.”
This comes after doctors announced a 79-year-old man recovered from the illness with the help of the Ebola drug remdesiver.
The medication has shown signs of success in an American woman who was diagnosed with coronavirus on February 26, and 14 other Americans who contracted the infection after traveling on the Diamond Princess cruise ship.
Italy has more than 59,000 confirmed cases and over 5,400 deaths.
In US, there are over 35,000 cases and more than 400 fatalities, Spain with over 29,900 cases and 1,800 deaths, and Germany over 24,900 cases and more than 90 fatalities.
