Several Italian cities have been placed on a lockdown whereas multiple renowned events were canceled following a surge in confirmed coronavirus cases in the country.
According to the reports, major public events, including Venice’s carnival celebrations, have been postponed or canceled after officials in Rome decided to take drastic measures to contain the outbreak following over 200 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 5 deaths in the country.
One of the events canceled was also a Milan fashion show by Giorgio Armani who explained the event would be streamed online instead.
“The show will be shown behind closed doors, due to the recent developments of coronavirus in Italy, live-streamed in front of an empty teatro on the Armani website, therefore please do not attend the show this afternoon,” Armani statement read.
Upon the orders of the government, the Italian football league has also postponed three matches in the northern part of the country.
Meanwhile, 12 towns where cluster cases of infection have sparked a panic were put under a lockdown whereas residents were urged to stay indoors and the authorities have blocked all roads leading out.
In response to the surge in confirmed coronavirus cases, neighboring countries have taken their own measures in an attempt to prevent the infection from spreading over Italian borders.
As for Austria, the government has blocked all trains coming from Italy from entering the country. Meanwhile, they have also stopped all train links going to Italy.
