A mother has been left distraught after finding out that the special items she had placed on her baby daughter’s grave were stolen by thieves.
Kamie-Jane Elkington couldn’t believe it when she discovered the items she left for baby Lottie were missing, and she has reported the incident to the police.
“I went down to the grave on June 24 and lay some fresh flowers down and the kids took a wooden Peter Rabbit they had made. I then went back on July 20, and found everything had gone,” the mother said.
“There was a plaque, some angel wings, a coin with a heart on. I was absolutely gutted.”
Flowers and a teddy bear were among the special items stolen from her baby daughter’s grave in Babworth Cemetery, Nottinghamshire.
It was in 2015 when Kamie-Jane lost her daughter shortly after giving birth. She has previously lost another daughter, who was stillborn.
Kamie said people from the local community reached out to her since she shared about the heartbreaking incident online.
“It’s really gut-wrenching,” said Kamie. “It’s upset my 13-year old and my three-year old keeps asking me where Peter Rabbit has gone. It was handmade and really irreplaceable,” she said.
“The only good thing is that I’ve had an amazing response from people.
“One lady offered to send some fake flowers to put on the grave and people have been posting money in envelopes through my mum’s letterbox.
“People have been very kind, I would just like to have the items returned.”
One Facebook user commented: “Happened to us a few times. My son’s grave now doesn’t have anything worth stealing on it.”
Another wrote: “I believe in karma ; they will get theirs.”
A third added: “Shame on them should not steal from graves.”
