A mother from Leicester in the United Kingdom is expressing her great dismay and outrage over primary schools’ decision to weigh students from as early as September of this year.
The mother reportedly slammed the educational institutions for approving this decision, while slamming their plans as simply outrageous too. Moreover, the mum went about expressing his great anger over the situation as she feels children as young as primary-aged students will remain traumatized for life.
“You simply can’t just ask these young children to step on scales at their schools. It’s not right,” the mum went on to add.
The recent decision to weigh students at the Primary Schools is a part of the Government’s National Child Measurement Program, which has been approved due to growing fears of an obesity crisis taking over the city. Moreover, many critics feel that ever since the pandemic has ensued and children have been forced to homeschool, the obesity crisis has worsened greatly.
However, Sue Dorman who is a 58-year-old mother that hails from Leicestershire claims that she is totally against the idea. In the same way, she goes on to recall how she was once weighed as a child during her school time and that incident left her scarred for life.
“It just manages to leave such a bad and lasting impact on your mental health,” she explained in detail. And for that reason, this mum says that she’s not willing to allow her children and others to go through that.
“When you are forcefully being lined up in front of all others and then your weight is disclosed to the public, it’s just not a very nice feeling!” Similarly, the mum explains how the schools then force you to follow a diet while your parents would soon be informed of the humiliation.
And in the end, she says that you become the subject of jokes and great bullying from other pupils at the school.
