Alibaba founder Jack Ma, the richest man in China, has been praised after announcing he will donate some 1.
8 million face masks along with 100,000 testing kits to Europe as the continent is dealing with coronavirus outbreak.
After the outbreak’s slowdown in China, the founder of the e-commerce giant announced his generous aid to Europe where coronavirus has been spreading rapidly throughout dozens of countries.
According to the 55-year-old billionaire, the face masks and testing kits will be shared between different European countries.
“Fortunately, although cross-country transport for counter-epidemic goods has been difficult, we learned that the eWTP (The Electronic World Trade Platform) hub in Europe’s Liege Airport is operating well and can act as a lifeline to assist us to deliver our continuous aids to Europe to those in need,” the tycoon wrote.
“Although we live thousands of miles apart, we will race against the clock in hopes of providing emergency help and overcoming difficulties together.”
Previously in March, Mr. Ma’s charity foundation has also announced he donated one million face masks to South Korea and Japan.
The Alibaba founder has also donated nearly $15 million to scientists to encourage faster development of a coronavirus vaccine.
As he revealed at the time, 40% of the funds would be directed at the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Sciences to assist scientists in the development of a vaccine for the deadly novel coronavirus.
The rest of the donations were set to be split between numerous other science and research institutions in China and abroad in order to encourage better control and prevention of the disease.
“Jack Ma Foundation will exhaust our abilities to provide more help to the development and growth of medical science,” the mogul’s charity announced.
