Puppies are just way more popular among those looking to adopt. If you’ve ever spent any time at a shelter, you will know there are people who only want a puppy for their family. There’s nothing wrong with wanting a puppy, but it means that a lot of older dogs are passed over. Older dogs are often seen as harder to train and you won’t be able to spend as much time with them.

It’s sadly a common train of thought and because of it, most people prefer a puppy or a dog less than a year old.

As someone who has met their fair share of older dogs, these animals are will love your family and are willing to learn a ton. Especially for a slower paced family, an older dog can be perfect because they’re less excitable, more mature, and relaxed.
