At the age of 17, Jalen Alford wanted to fill up the nomination to run for an election for Cincinnati city. But he has to wait for another year to be eligible for the post.
People were surprised to know whether it is legal for Alford to become the city council. To this, Alford replied that he has been politically active from a tender age of 11.
He has researched Obama’s campaign. In addition, Alford has also assisted his uncle Robert Richardson in his campaign and came to know about political matters better.
Working on the political campaigns indicates the start of Alford’s career. Due to this, he is known to spend a lot of time dealing with youth gun violence problems.
Alford also wishes to lower the voting age to 16 years. He further stated that he has got a regional grant from the NAACP for voter registration, though not all city councils are aware of the voter registration plans.
To this, councilmember David Mann added that he is not sure whether 16 years should be decided as the minimum age when a candidate is eligible to cast his or her vote. Only at the age of 18, a person is considered to be an adult.
Council-member David Mann further said that they are happy to see a young boy like Alford to get involved in political matters even before hitting the age of 18.
To become the youngest member of the city council is not the sole goal of Alford. Instead, he wishes to get more involved in politics and considers Obama to be his inspiration.
He dreams of being part of the White House, and it will be the end goal of his political career. This is how Jalen Alford wishes to progress in his life, politically from a young age.
