Jameela Jamil has lashed out at Piers Morgan after his comments about Meghan Markle as she insisted he made her feel suicidal in the past.
As the 35-year-old ‘The Good Place’ star insisted, the British broadcaster’s “campaign of lies and hatred” left her wanting to kill herself.
“I almost killed myself a year ago because of Piers Morgan’s relentless campaign of lies and hatred against me last February,” Jamil wrote in her tweet.
“I’m glad I’m still alive today for many reasons. But watching him leave GMB today is right up there and has me feeling,” she added as she shared a GIF that shows her flicking her hair while posing for photos on the red carpet.
Following Meghan and Harry’s CBS interview with Oprah, Morgan lashed out at the couple and their allegations as he said he didn’t believe a word they said. Following his comments, the broadcaster faced a major backlash that resulted in him quitting ITV’s Good Morning Britain.
“May we NEVER have to watch minorities have to go on mainstream news and have to *defend* their right to be treated with dignity and respect… ever again. All while being screamed over by this man. @GMB,” Jamil wrote as she targeted Morgan in another tweet.
The rift between Piers and Jameela started widening last year after the broadcaster accused the actress of hypocrisy as he called her out for leading an alleged “online pile-on” against Caroline Flack.
Flack was a Love Island host who committed suicide last February after it came to light she was facing prosecution for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend.
Following the TV host’s death, Morgan shared old screenshots of his conversation with Flack on Twitter. In the October messages, Flack insisted that she was “struggling” with Jameela because of the “hate she aims at me.”
“Jameela Jamil is having a lot to say about online harassment, so in the interests of balance, here is a message Caroline Flack sent me last October after the same Jameela Jamil led an online pile-on against her regarding a new TV show she was doing,” Morgan tweeted last year.
After the broadcaster called out the actress over alleged harassment, Jamil responded by insisting she was merely attacking the TV host’s show, The Surjury, and not Flack as a person.
“I simply said I found the show ‘surjury’ (not her) problematic for kids to watch. And that Love Island needed some more diversity. Both times Caroline instigated debate with ME even though I was not targeting or blaming her at all. I always just politely explained my point,” the 35-year-old actress replied.
“Piers Using a dead woman who I was friends with, as a weapon to try to create further harassment for me as I’ve JUST explained publicly that last week I felt suicidal… is why he is this industry’s most problematic. My criticizing a *show* did not aim any hate at Caroline.”
