James Gunn has said that the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie, the third sequel of the series, will be his last collaboration with the franchise.
The revelation from the American filmmaker and singer came when he posted a picture of himself with the directors of Marvel having a round table meeting about Infinity war.
It was in the comment section of his post that Gunn, 52, revealed the news.
One person asked: “How many GoG movies are you ready to direct?” Gunn replied: “1 more.” Right on point with no beating around the bush, the iconic Gunn style.
It is possible that Gunn might change his mind at some point in time but, as of now, it seems like we’ll not be seeing his effort behind the screen of any GoG movies after the third sequel.
Another user asked when will the movie hit cinemas, to which Gunn replied: “After The Suicide Squad.”
It is confirmed that Gunn will be among the creators of The Suicide Squad, working along with Warner Bros. Its filming will start in October in Atlanta, and is going to be released on August 6, 2021.
There’s so far no official release date for Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Also, there’s not been any spoiler, teaser or trailer regarding the third sequel of the series.
Fans are however presenting their own theories as usual, with some expecting Star-Lord, Mantis, Rocket, and Groot partnering up to deal with the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame.
There’s no confirmation about Thor’s appearance in the movie but some fans are rather eager to see him in the 3rd edition of the famous series.
Gunn who was fired from the seat of director of Guardians of the Galaxy last year due to some offensive tweets has now been reinstated to the post.
Marvel even had to put the working on Guardians of the Galaxy 3 on hold because of Gunn’s Tweets making fun of 9/11 attacks, pedophilia and rape.
According to a report by Deadline, Alan Horn, President of Walt Disney Studios, was requested to rehire him. Gunn was reinstated after he made a public apology for his offensive tweets.
Gunn has also criticized the Trump administration several times in the past, which turned a number of conservatives against him.
In July last year, Gunn defended himself in a tweet, saying: “Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo.
“As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor.
“It’s not to say I’m better, but I am very, very different than I was a few years ago; today I try to root my work in love and connection and less in anger.”
When Gunn’s Twitter scandal went viral, Alan Horn said at the time: “The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him.”
Replaced!
