Rapper Jeezy and TV star Jeannie Mai are officially engaged, PEOPLE reported.
The 42-year-old rapper, whose birth name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, had originally planned to propose 41-year-old Mai during a planned trip to Vietnam.
However, Jeezy was forced to change his plans due to the ongoing virus lockdown so he proposed Mai at his LA home during a special date night.
Speaking to PEOPLE, a representative for Mai said: “Jeannie and Jay were set for a trip to Vietnam this April. What Jeannie didn’t know is that Jay was planning to propose.
“Instead, Jay decided to bring Vietnam to Jeannie with a surprise quarantine date night in his home filled with Vietnamese food and decor.”
The couple have been dating since November 2018, after they met for the first time in Mai’s talk show.
However, they made their relationship public in August 2019 as they joined hands on the red carpet at a gala for Street Dreamz, Jeezy’s non-profit organization.
Speaking to PEOPLE in November 2019, Mai said: “We both went through enough in our life to connect on the understanding that love should feel safe, honest, and pure.
“Immediately that was a magnetic attraction.
“We are very attracted to each other’s passions to serve. So because we have a mutual joy of having purpose, we’re going to find a way to do that together.”
The couple spent Thanksgiving with Jeezy’s extended family in the rapper’s hometown of Atlanta.
“It was so wonderful to meet his family and be able to spend time together. It was special,” the talk show host said on The Real at the time.
Jeezy’s extended family instantly connected with Mai, with his aunt making a special dish just for her.
“She came with Tupperware, chitlins and oxtail, and they were just for me!” Mai said.
“They weren’t for everyone, and she was like, ‘These are just for you, don’t let anyone else have them.’ It was so wonderful to meet his family and be able to spend time together. It was special.”
Mai has previously been in a relationship with Freddy Harteis, who she divorced in 2017.
