Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence created a public Twitter account to use it as a platform for promoting race equality in the US.
The actress had a private Twitter account and thus is not new to the social media platform. In previous interviews, she said that she uses to account to follow and see how other people are living, saying that she has a voyeuristic side in her despite appearing on camera for a living.
She said that she will never make a public account because she is fully aware of the repercussions that may follow what she posts online. Lawrence said that she understands and respects how everyone has their own thoughts about all the issues, and thus will not create a public account unless absolutely necessary.
In the wake of the death of George Floyd while under police custody must have been the turning point for her. In the same interview, Lawrence said that if she ever made a public account, it would be to promote something that really matters to her.
In her first tweet, the actress shared a short video. The short PSA which starred Omar Epps described how African American males were the overwhelming target of police brutality, adding how more than one-quarter of all black males will be sent to custody.
Lawrence plugged Epps in her tweet, saying that the video can help her followers understand and learn more about the corruption of the justice system in the US.
Her second tweet on Wednesday was a much longer one, which discussed the death of Breonna Taylor. Using the hashtags #SayHerName and #BreonnaTaylor, Lawrence explained how its already been three months since the death of Taylor yet no answer has been given.
Lawrence expressed her anger that not one person has been charged following the death of Taylor; in fact, the officer who shot her remains employed for the Louisville Police Department.
The issue is literally close to her home as Lawrence was born in Louisville. She urged state officials to be responsible civil servants and to bring justice and truth to what she considered an egregious case of police brutality.
