A Mexican church has hit a record by creating the world’s biggest baby Jesus statue only to be mocked for its looks with people comparing it to actor Nicolas Cage and British singer Phil Collins.
The 22-foot statue that weighs nearly one ton popped up in La Epifania del Senor, a Mexican church located in Zoquite, Guadalupe, in central Mexico.
While the locals couldn’t get any prouder of the statue, internet users quickly compared baby Jesus’ looks to that of the famous actor Nicolas Cage and British singer Phil Collins.
“The image was made in the municipality of Chimalhuacan, it is an image of six and a half meters of fiberglass, resin, automotive paste and automotive paint,” sculptor Roman Salvador said.
Regardless of whether it looks more like Cage or Collins, people have quickly taken the opportunity to mock the statue and photoshop it into various other pictures and memes.
“There is a space of between eight meters between the ceiling and the floor and I ordered a statue measuring six meters and a half but I never intended to make it the biggest baby Jesus statue in the world,” Humberto Rodriguez, the church’s priest, said of the project.
“When it was done (the statue), I began to study the different statues of baby Jesus in the world to come with the tone of the face and I realized that the biggest baby (the biggest baby Jesus statue) in the world was in Netzahualcoyotl.”
After the pictures of the statue went viral, people couldn’t resist sharing their remarks on social media.
“Nicolas is watching you so you better behave!” one person joked.
“This is exactly how the statue of baby Jesus shouldn’t look like,” another one wrote.
