The way Joaquin Phoenix played the role of Joker in the 2019 movie focused on the history of one of the most iconic villains captivated fans from all over the world.
The movie was a huge success and Joaquin even won an Oscar for his flawless performance. However, not everyone knows that the actor played an equally amazing role in another movie in 2017.
The movie, You Were Never Really Here, was released on Netflix last November but people have just discovered it now because they have excessive free time due to the lockdown.
In the dark thriller, Joaquin plays the role of a traumatized mercenary who is tasked with finding and rescuing a girl kidnapped by human traffickers.
Joaquin nailed his character in this movie the same way he breathed life into Joker’s character, delivering excellent performance.
In fact, some people who have watched the newly discovered film of Joaquin have the opinion that this one is even better than Joker.
Joaquin has undertaken some very difficult roles during his lengthy showbiz career. Over the years, he has played a number of disturbed and dark characters.
Some of his finest roles include Johnny Cash in Walk the Line and Commodus in Gladiator.
In a statement to LADbible, Joaquin acknowledged that he owes his success more to the filmmakers than to the characters he played in his career.
The star said: “For me, what’s important, what motivates my decisions, is not so much the character or the genre, or the type of movie – it’s the filmmaker. It’s really that simple.
“So I’m open to every kind of movie, I think it just requires a conversation with the filmmakers, to see if we have a shared vision, or even if we just like each other.”
In case you haven’t watched You Were Never Really Here, the ongoing lockdown is probably the best time to do so.
