President Biden has fired Trump’s White House physician and replaced him with his own long-term doctor.
Dr Sean Conley, who served as the former president’s physician during his time in the office, has been accused of misleading the public after providing conflicting details about Trump’s condition while the 45th president fought Covid-19.
While Trump’s case was relatively severe in reality – whereas the former president had a high fever and needed supplemental oxygen – Conley downplayed the situation in an uplifting assessment.
The physician later admitted his assessment was positive because the White House aimed to project optimism during Trump’s time in the hospital.
“I didn’t want to give any information that might steer the course of illness in another direction, and in doing so, you know, it came off that we were trying to hide something, which wasn’t necessarily true. The fact of the matter is that he’s doing really well,” Dr Conley said at the time.
Following Biden’s inauguration, the new president decided to fire the controversial White House physician and replace him with his own doctor, Kevin O’Connor. It is not unusual for new presidents to bring their own doctors into the White House after they take office.
According to the reports, O’Connor, who is a retired US Army colonel, has worked as Biden’s doctor ever since 2009 when he was appointed as the then-vice president’s physician by the Obama administration.
O’Connor was also the doctor who gave the 46th US president a green light to pursue presidency by noting that Biden is “a healthy, vigorous, 77-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency.”
The newly-appointed Chief White House Physician and White House Medical Unit director will oversee the medical needs of the president and will also tend to the vice president, the White House staff, and the visitors.
