Jonathan Banks will be a part of the new Breaking Bad movie, El Camino, having broken the news to reporters while on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards.
The actor spoke to Entertainment Tonight Canada, where he was asked the question about whether or not he’d feature in the film.
With a wry smile, he said: “Yes.”
Banks – who starred in the original program as a police officer turned hitman Mike Ehrmantraut – said he knew he’d probably get in trouble for the big reveal, adding: “They’ll hit me over the head for saying this but yes, why not?!
“I mean none of those guys hit very hard anyway.”
A trailer for El Camino released at the Emmys, which shows Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) sitting in his car listening to a radio broadcast of police investigating multiple people dead after a huge shootout.
Many people have assumed that the clip proves that Walter White is dead, point out that the broadcast states nine bodies have been located. With eight gang members in Breaking Bad’s final shootout, does this mean that Bryan Cranston’s character is the ninth?
In his interview, Banks also revealed he lost his home in the Malibu wildfires, which ravaged the celebrity hotspot in November last year.
Asked where he keeps his awards, Banks explained: “I lost my house in the Malibu fire, so I lost everything. Gone.”
He added: “We’ll rebuild. It’s a kick in the ass.”
Banks was nominated in Emmy for his character, for the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Though he lost out to Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage.
Dinklage, 50, said in his slightly sweary acceptance speech: “I have no idea what I’m about to say but here we go, I count myself to be so fortunate to be part of a community that is about tolerance, diversity, and inclusivity.
“It’s been about ten years all said and done when I met David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] and I had no idea what I was getting myself into but I knew they were brilliant.
“It was ten years of absolute sweat, but ten years of the most incredible, talented, funniest…”
It was at this point that the actor’s words were bleeped out as he began to swear.
Smiling, he added: “I don’t care, it’s over!”
Dinklage continued: “We did nothing but sweat, we did nothing but laugh. Dave and Dan, we walked through fire and ice for you. Literally.
“I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.”
