Being able to give birth to a child and bring a human to the world is undoubtedly the most precious joy one can have.
For Freddy McConnell, it was a fantastic experience no one ever thought of.
Freddy was born female and transitioned into a man when he got pregnant with donated sperms. He will be sharing his entire journey starting from the disbelief when he got a positive pregnancy result until he held his baby in his hands.
The BBC documentary named, Seahorse: The Dad Who Gave Birth” is a compilation of his pregnancy moments.
When Freddy transitioned into a man in 2013, he decided to keep his womb, in case, he planned to have kids in future. The 32 years old man carried his son for nine months and gave birth naturally without an operation.
To conceive a baby, he had to stop his testosterone intake, which resulted in several changes in his body, including facial hair, broadened lips, periods, etc.
The documentary showcases the physical and mental changes witnessed by Freddy throughout his journey towards fatherhood. He stated in the documentary that he felt like he was an alien.
Freddy from England expressed that though the documentary is all about he having a baby, at times it felt like it was he totally losing himself.
Freddy also added that people never judged or looked at him as a pregnant man. People assumed him as a man with a beer belly which made things easier for him.
He didn’t even recognize as a trans man giving birth to a baby. Freddy was literally invisible to the world, which gave him the courage to undergo such drastic change in his physical and mental being.
As the documentary is all set to go on air, Freddy hopes that it gives trans parents the courage to start their family, irrespective of all the odds.
