A loud explosion has ripped through the streets of Kabul with reports claiming at least four US marines killed and many other members of the military personnel wounded.
Local media reports claim that the incident was a suicide bomb attack that took place right outside Kabul’s airport as evacuations were in full swing, with the August 31st dealing looming.
The Pentagon has gone on to confirm the casualties belonging to the US marines while fearing more causalities as more recent reports come in. While the exact number is yet to be confirmed, US officials are trying their best to determine the exact number of casualties while working with intelligence agencies.
While the Pentagon has reportedly refused to claim which nations’ troops were really involved in the attack, they did strongly acknowledge how several US service members were killed in the tragic incident.
The suicide explosion took place at around 5:30 pm in the afternoon, local time. And that’s when intelligence agencies from both the US and UK feared for the worst as they received threats of a possible attack taking place as their evacuation efforts continued.
Meanwhile, other reports have confirmed the involvement of ISIS behind the attack while the Taliban forces claim that they are in a helpless situation as they are not allowed to enter the Kabul airport.point 283 |
Hence, some locals blame the US for the attack as they feel many Afghans who died in the explosion were innocent women and children who were prevented from boarding US flights and heading out of the nation.point 170 | 1
As of now, the death toll continues to increase and it includes many Afghan women, children, troops, and others. After the incident, many NATO members have opted to halt their evacuation efforts while the UK has refused to do so, claiming that they will continue.
