Vice President Kamala Harris has moved into her new home located just across the street from the White House where Joe and Jill Biden have settled in.
According to the reports, the VP and her husband, Doug Emhoff, have moved into Blair House, a Washington DC mansion located at 1651 Pennsylvania Avenue.
The 14-bedroom home, which is commonly also known as the president’s guest house, typically serves as a guest house for foreign visitors of the president, whereas the vice presidents normally stay at the Naval Observatory which is located some three miles away from the White House.point 532 | 1
Since the Number One Observatory Circle is undergoing renovation following VP Mike Pence’s stay at the property, however, Harris has made Blair House her new home.
The 14-bedroom property is comprised of four connected townhouses and was bought by the government back in 1942. It comes complete with historic furnishings, a massive library, and a total of 119 rooms which occupy over 60,000 square feet – more than the White House which comes with 55,000 square feet of floor area.
“It’s such a cozy and beautiful place. There is so much history here, and it tells the great story of our country,” Blair House Restoration Fund board member Capricia Marshall told the Washington Post.
“So many presidents have passed through that black and white marble threshold. Yes, it has a lot of square footage, but it feels like a home.”
The massive home, which reportedly requires as many as 18 full-time staff members, consists of 14 guest suites on top of two big conference rooms and several formal dining areas.
Among other renowned figures that have previously stayed at Harris’ new home are the Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Queen, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
