The niece of Vice President Kamala Harris was allegedly told to stop selling all products related to her aunt.
As the Biden administration vowed to “uphold the highest ethical standards,” 36-year-old Meena Harris, the niece of VP Kamala Harris, stopped selling a range of swimsuits and T-shirts named and styled after her family member.
Among other products linked to Kamala Harris, Meena’s clothing brand Phenomenal offered a series of sweatshirts including the ones that read ‘VICE PRESIDENT AUNTY’ and those featuring ‘MVP’ – Madam Vice President.
While Politico confirmed that the 36-year-old Harvard Law graduate is no longer selling products linked to her aunt’s name, Fox News claimed that she was told to remove them from the offer a day after Biden’s inauguration.
“The Vice President and her family will uphold the highest ethical standards and it’s the White House’s policy that the Vice President’s name should not be used in connection with any commercial activities that could reasonably be understood to imply an endorsement or support,” the VP office confirmed in an official statement.point 597 | 1
Meena, who is an author, last year also published a children’s book about her mom and her aunt. Titled Kamala and Maya’s Big Idea, the book has made it on New York Times bestseller list.
While it is not clear whether Harris will still profit from her work, the story doesn’t infringe ethics rules because it was published prior to the election. Since then, the 36-year-old has also issued another book titled Ambitious Girl.
Meanwhile, the White House also told CNN that the President’s name “should not be used in connection with any commercial activities to suggest, or in any way that could reasonably understood to imply, his endorsement or support.”
