Kamala Harris reveals that she will not plan to visit the southern border since it will just be a “grand gesture” instead of going on a genuine trip.
The current vice president warns illegal migrants that they are not welcome to the United States.
There have been many issues involving the “migrant surge” and she makes a public statement saying, “On the issues of Republicans’ political attacks or criticism or even concerns, the reason I am here in Guatemala as my first trip as vice president of the United States is because this is one of our highest priorities. ” This is her answer during a question asked during a press conference with the Guatemalan president.
She continues, “I came here to be on the ground, to speak with the leader of this nation around what we can do in a way that is significant, is tangible, and has real results.”
She says that she will continue to be focused on that kind of work as opposed to “grand gestures” such as visiting the southern border.
Republicans have been open with their opinions and criticism of Harris refusing to visit the border, even after being labeled the “border czar” back in March by President Joe Biden. Since she is avoiding the region completely, people are saying that it is proof that she is not committed to the problem 100%.
Harris believes that any migrants who attempted to enter the U.S. through non-legal ways will be turned away if they arrive at the border. She wants to be clear, warning them to “not come,” and repeats it for emphasis.
She believes that if “you come to our border, you will be turned back.”
Republicans were unhappy with the term “grand gesture,” saying that she still should visit because it is her responsibility as the Vice President of the United States.
Republican Florida Representative Byron Donalds adds, “Vice President Harris is refusing to travel to the border because she will be forced to acknowledge the crisis she and the President have created if she does.”
Recently, she had been greeted with protestors when she arrived in Guatemala. One of the flags read, “Kamala go home,” and another demanded that she “mind her own business.”
