Kanye West has bought his childhood home in the South Shore neighborhood in Chicago according to the reports.
This happened just after he was named a billionaire by Forbes magazine.
This, however, would not burn a hole in his pocket as a real estate reporter said that the rapper had bought the house for almost $225,000 and would be required to spend a minimum of $60,000 for repairing it after the house was left in ruins.
It is also reported that Kanye is unhappy with the findings and research of Forbes because he believes his net worth is approximately $3.3 billion.
The house was previously purchased by a charity linked to West, which he has cut ties with after a feud with rapper Rhymefest, his childhood friend.
Donda’s house, the charity, named after Kanye’s late mother, who lost her life in 2007 due to complications with some cosmetic procedure, had bought the house in 2016 with plans to innovate it into an arts incubator for youths.
Rhymefest had said that the house would be serving as the headquarters of the non-profit and would feature a museum and a pioneering recording studio, in the hope of inspiring the next generation.
However, since those plans got canceled, the house had been littered with old CDs, beer bottles, heart-shaped post-its in the last few years. According to the report, it would cost less to demolish the house than renovating it.
Donda, Kanye’s mother, had bought the house in the early 1980s but had sold it in 2004.
She worked as an English professor at the Chicago State University and is believed to have mentored Rhymefest while the rapper was growing up with Kanye West in the South Side.
In 2018, Rhymefest, who was the creative director of the charity, got into social media fight with Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian West.
Kim had tweeted against Rhymefest claiming that he was leveraging with her husband’s name and asked Kanye to donate money but not using it rightly.
