Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, 39, is said to be the one “stepping into” the “peacemaker” role left behind by Prince Philip, according to Vanity Fair royal editor Katie Nicholl.
She also said that the Duchess of Cambridge is “trying to keep things together” in the Royal Family, much like Prince Philip was once responsible for.
Katie Nicholl, 60 Minutes Australia Vanity Fair royal editor said that Kate has become the royal family’s “greatest asset” and that she is “the perfect vehicle for good PR (public relations) for the family” in difficult times.
“The royal family realizes they have a really important key player here and they’re bringing her center stage,” Katie said. “I think Kate is the glue. In the same way that the Duke of Edinburgh was always the one who would help resolve family issues.”
“He was the patriarch of the family. I see Kate stepping into that role,” Katie added. “Trying to keep things together.”
It is a difficult year for the royal family who have suffered a lot through the loss of Prince Philip, questioned about Prince Andrew’s friendship with billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and series of allegations thrown at them by Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.
Katie has also discussed the line of succession and whether the monarchy would skip Charles and Camilla to go straight to William and Kate.
“A lot of people think it would make more sense to skip a generation and let the crown move straight to William and Kate,” Katie said. “Possibly they might prove a more popular King and Queen than Charles and Camilla.”
“But the idea of breaking the constitution and that is essentially everything the Royal Family is built upon is really something that’s not going to happen,” Katie added. “William and Kate are the perfect vehicles for good PR (public relations).”
“We’ve seen a different side to the royals, and we’ve seen that with William and Kate, they’ve been more real and reliable,” she added. “For someone that wasn’t born royal she does royal incredible well, she can’t put a foot wrong.”
Recently, Kate’s brother-in-law Prince Harry opened up about his childhood in yet another attack on the royal family.
Speaking in The Me You Can’t See, his new AppleTV+ mental health series produced with Oprah Winfrey, Harry alleged Prince Charles of “continuing the cycle of generational suffering” as well as saying that the royal family has prevented Meghan Markle from getting help when she was suicidal.
The Duchess was also said to have been playing a “peacemaker” role at the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.
She was influential in letting the brothers Prince Harry, 36, and Prince William, 38, have a conversation.
It was the first time the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry had seen his family in person since he and Meghan Markle left the UK last year.
Although social distancing was observed in the chapel and the procession, the three younger royals were spotted on camera walking and talking together after the service.
Kate was thought to have brought this about by being the first to speak to Harry.
Royally Us podcast host Christina Garibaldi said that: “The three of them have been close for so many years so it was nice to see them, the ‘Three Musketeers back’ together again.”
