12 Ways To Keep Your Fruits And Vegetables Fresh


Sometimes you overbuy things when you go shopping for groceries.

Unfortunately, fruits and vegetables can go back very quickly and you end up throwing them away.

Storing your food properly can save you a lot of money and prevent them from rotting quickly. Below are ways to help you keep your food fresh for a long time.

Unrefrigerated

#1. If the avocados are not ripe, cover them with newspaper and put them inside a paper bag.

Putting avocados inside the fridge will stop the ripening process. To make them ripe, wrap them with newspaper and put them inside a paper bag. Putting a banana inside the bag speeds up the process.

  • With bag: they take 3 to 5 days to mature
  • Without a bag: they take up to 7 days
  • With Bag and banana: 2-3 days

 

#2. Keep potatoes in a dark and dry place.

Don’t put your potatoes in a plastic bag, rather put them in mesh or paper bags. Another way is to place them in gridded boxes with something to absorb humidity at the bottom of the box.

#3. Parsley, cilantro, basil, and asparagus: without washing them, place the stems in a container with water and leave them at room temperature.

#4. Keep garlic in a dark and dry place.
