We all know that veterans have some special privileges over a common citizen as they have spent their lives protecting the lives of each and every one of us.
Apart from the benefits offered by the government like pension, life insurance, health care etc, a lot of private organizations also come up with different programs offering discounts/special promotions for the serving and retired police officers and army personnel.
Even though by availing these offers, sometimes they can only save a few bucks, still we should appreciate such companies. But that’s not happened with KFC when they decided to offer a free meal for all the uniform police officers.
A KFC store in Gallipolis, Ohio decided to pay tribute to police officers for their hard work and serving the country. They came up with a promotion that says, “All Uniform Police Officers Eat Free, Everyday, All Day”.
The store posted the notice on the window that was visible to everyone. The idea was simple – it was a sign of appreciation for the police officers on duty who can go there any time of the day and enjoy the meal. Someone took the photo of the notice and posted online where it got viral on the internet.
Some netizens really appreciated the move while others were not happy about it. Some people commented that police officers are just performing their duty just like any other government officers.
They were of the view that if such offers keep on coming for them, they will start feeling privileged and will not feel like serving the people.
The picture was posted by Ohio Going Blue Facebook page and when they saw that some of the people are not happy, they had to come up with a reply.
Admins said, “This is a positive post, but some of you can’t see the bigger picture. As an officer, I do not go into any establishment expecting/wanting ANYTHING to be free or let alone even a discount, whether I’m in uniform or not, and I can tell you other officers feel the same way.
We don’t like “special treatment”. The fact is that KFC is acknowledging law enforcement, which is why this was posted. To those who stated that other first responders should also be acknowledged. My answer? ABSOLUTELY.”
The post got more than 10,000 reactions and 6,000 shares and when the debate got hotter whether the sign should be there or no, the KFC store also had to respond back.
KFC store’s manager said that they are not taking the sign down and it would stay there. He said that we all feel safe because of the police officers and in return, if they can offer them a free meal, it will help them to keep motivated and inspired all the time.
What do you think about whether police should get such kind of discounts or no?
