Kim-Marie Gerrard, 36, and Mark Tooth, 42, cancelled their dream wedding due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The grave situation forced them to drop the idea of getting married, but their two children planned a surprise for their parents as they didn’t want them to cancel their nuptials.
Louis, 10, and Ruby, 8, arranged a wedding ceremony at their home in Cheddleton, Staffs for their parents. The couple were asleep when the children set up the garden area, they were surprised when they woke up and saw what their kids have done for them.
The mother donned her bridal dress and veil and the dad wore his suit for the unplanned ceremony. Ruby played the role of the photographer and Louis managed the ceremony.
Kim-Marie who is a nursery manager, said: “We were absolutely amazed. We had no idea what they were doing until they woke us up and said ‘get dressed, you’re getting married today.”
“My little boy was dressed in his suit from top to bottom with his shiny shoes on. They’d set the garden up with chairs when we woke up with teddies on them as guests. They’d set everything up ready to officially marry mum and dad.”
Ruby filmed the special moments and Louis told the newlywed, “Welcome to our wedding, marrying mum and dad. COVID-19, you won’t stop us today.”
“Thank you, Freya for the cake and Sam for the flowers. Now let’s begin.”
Louis then asked his mum, “Do you Kim, promise to be Mark’s friend?” to which she responded: “Yes, I promise to be Mark’s friend.”
Louis asked: “To comfort him and listen to him?” she replied: “To comfort him and listen to him, yes I do.”
The young boy then addressed his dad Mark, “Do you Mark take Kim to be her friend. To kiss her and cuddle her like a grizzly bear? Dad, you had better say ‘I do’.”
To which Mark laughed and replied: “I do,” before Louis closes the ceremony by saying: “Good, you may now kiss the bride. Congratulations.”
Kim recalled her special day saying, “My little girl wanted to be the photographer so she had the camera and was whipping round.
“It was quite funny but it was nice a really good giggle.” The couple said that they will hold an official wedding ceremony after the pandemic and lockdown ends.
