In what is being termed as a historic move when it comes to television networks for kids, many were taken aback by the ‘pride month’ content on display recently by channels like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon too.
Believe it or not, in honor of the month designated for the LGBTQ community, many people were taken aback by the move that featured diverse content. Last week, critics called out channels like Nickelodeon for debuting a music video that came titled, ‘The Meaning of Pride.’
It featured a dancing drag queen that is famously recalled as ‘Nina West’ who sang with great pride a song whose lyrics were anything but ordinary. Yes, the song packed a major punch.
Meanwhile, the channels didn’t stop just there. They also went ahead and posted images of a shoe alongside Spongebob Squarepants, which was present underneath a giant rainbow, featuring all the colors that stood for the LGBTQ community.
The picture featured a rather bold caption that stated, “I can be anything that I wish to be, with the right imagination.”
Just like Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network was also quick to promote a number of pride messages through its Instagram account as well.
Other than that, posts that mentioned statements like, ‘Love is Love’ also stole the show with its bold and colorful aura. In the same way, another post on social media by the cartoon network giant featured a large banner that read, I am not confused.’
That post was published just last week and hence discussed the art of self-expression.
Clearly, these platforms seem to be heading in a new direction that most of the viewers aren’t really accustomed to seeing on a routine basis.
And that’s one of the many reasons why it’s sparking backlash across the board from more conservative parents that are very mindful of what their children watch and hence adopt.
