North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been accused of executing his special envoy in the US following the failed summit with Donald Trump.
The dictator allegedly purged high-ranking officials he deemed responsible not only for the failed summit but also for spying on their home country and “betraying the supreme leader.”
Special Envoy Kim Hyok Chol was supposedly shot at Mirim Airport back in March 2019. The Supreme Leader of North Korea accused the envoy of being “won over to the US” before ordering the firing squad to eliminate him.
Mr. Chol was a top diplomat who accompanied Jong-un on his nuclear summit in Vietnam and one of four high-ranking officials who allegedly got executed at the airport.
“He was accused of spying for the United States for poorly reporting on the negotiations without properly grasping U.S. intentions,” a source allegedly claimed.
While the other foreign ministry officials haven’t been named, a source told a South Korean outlet that they had all been accused of spying on North Korea for the U.S.
In addition to the executions, Kim Yong Chol, a senior official who had been in charge of nuclear talks with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, was allegedly required to undergo ideological re-education at a forced labor camp.
As for the woman who worked with envoy Hyok Chol during the nuclear summit, she was imprisoned. The reports also claim that Shin Hye Yong, Kim Jong Un’s interpreter, was imprisoned for making a mistake during the summit.
Shin was accused of failing to act when the Supreme Leader made a fresh proposal right before Donald Trump walked away from the table without a deal.
According to the reports, Shin failed to translate Kim’s ‘last-minute offer’ he allegedly made right before the U.S. President walked away.
