Noted Black Lives Matter activist Shaun King has publicly threatened the Kenosha Police Department that he will start identifying cop officers who are completely unrelated with the Jacob Blake case if the department refuses to reveal the related officers’ identity.
In a Twitter post in which he addressed the police department, the activist said that he will start naming officers who work for the department because there is a chance that the individual may have been the one related to the shooting of Blake.
King went on to claim that the department’s actions of hiding the identity of the officers who were at the scene is “unethical”. What King and his fellow activists wish to use that information for is unclear, but there is no legal basis on which he can starting sharing names.
However, this is exactly what the controversial activist set out to do. King shared two names online without any evidence that linked those two officers with the Blake case. For the first officer, King claimed that he was in a hotel because others believe he shot Blake.
In a post that is reminiscent of the worst villains such as the Joker, King jeered the police department by saying they have the power to end this any moment given that they disclose which officer shot Blake. He specifically asked for the name of the officer who was dispatched.
This is far from the first time that this activist whose work centers on the Brooklyn area stirred controversy. Just this Monday, King said that they had had enough of peace and how peace has not changed the world.
Moreover, he was an active spinner for the more extreme calls that have pervaded in what was initially anti-racist protests. For instance, King has called for the complete defunding of the police, along with defending the looting and violent clashes between police and protestors.
While a few raised and endorsed King’s posts, a much larger proportion of users condemned him. One user mocked how King must be so busy being a judge, jury and executioner at the same time. Others pointed out King himself was inciting racism and hatred.
