34-year-old Maybeth Espinoz and 36-year-old Hector Vidal were walking home from a club in Peru when they stopped for a kiss on a bridge.
Unfortunately, the couple fell 50ft to their deaths from Bethlehem bridge and the tragic moment was caught on CCTV footage.
The video showed the two kissing before Ms. Espinoz sat on top of the safety railings. She wrapped her legs around Mr. Vidal but she then appeared to lose her balance.
Ms. Espinoz tilted backward and Mr. Vidal tried to pull her back. However, the couple both ended up toppling over the railings.
Witnesses saw them fall and contacted emergency services right away. Local reports claim the two survived the fall but Ms. Espinoz died on the way to the hospital while Mr. Vidal passed away in intensive care where he was receiving treatment for a skull fracture.
The couple were mountaineers who moved to the area to start working as tour guides, according to Panamericana.
Association of Mountain Guides of Peru wrote in a heartbreaking post that Hector was a ‘good human being’ who had a ‘beautiful family which God blessed with beautiful children.’
It added: “We, your family of mountain guides will miss the great support to the institution. And even more those who will follow our steps, since you were an excellent instructor.”
The post has received messages of condolence from friends and strangers.
Edwin Vergara, Mr. Vidal’s brother, is reported to have told authorities that the couple had been drinking at a club before the accident.
