The three kittens – Pretzel and her two siblings, Oliver Twist and Curly Sue – were brought to a shelter named Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles after they were abandoned.
The shelter then gave the kittens to Laura Hawthorne to foster. They were just hours old when Laura took them to her home.
Laura told The Dodo: “It was a bit of a rollercoaster ride. When I picked them up from the shelter and they were just hours old and I saw the extent of their deformities, it was a little overwhelming.”
Unfortunately, Oliver Twist couldn’t survive and died that same night Laura brought her home while Curly Sue passed away after 14 weeks.
However, Pretzel, who has missing bones in her legs, a heart murmur, abnormal skeletal development, abnormal pelvic development, and an underbite, refused to give up and is still fighting.
Laura said when Pretzel’s sibling Curly Sue died, she was looking for her and was a little confused because they would spend a lot of time together.point 233 | 1
It was a difficult phase for Pretzel but now she has overcome the sadness.
“At my house, there’s never a shortage of foster kittens coming and going, so she had many close friendships during her time with me”, Laura said.
Laura thought Pretzel would never be able to find a home due to her medical conditions.point 290 |
But one day, Michelle Harrison sent her en email after seeing a video of Pretzel online.point 73 | 1
Laura said: “She had been moved to tears while watching the video and decided then and there that she would be Pretzel’s forever mom.”
Pretzel, who has a rough past, has finally found a new and forever home and is living with her owner happy.
