Kiwi Travels From Iran to New Zealand with Coronavirus


New Zealand has reported its first coronavirus case in a person who traveled from Iran.

The patient is in their 60s and has been admitted to Auckland City Hospital for treatment.

Fortunately, the patient’s condition is improving now.

 

Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand said that even though a patient has been tested positive with COVID-19, the chances of population outbreak are low.

The patient’s contact history is being traced by Public Health officials and also their family members will be tested for the virus.

The patient traveled on Feb 26 from Tehran to Auckland in an Emirates Airline flight.

The flight had two stoppages, the first one in Bali and the second one in Indonesia.

The ministry has also asked people on the flight to contact authorities if they are concerned.

On the same day, New Zealand announced to impose some temporary restrictions on the visitors coming there from Iran.

The number of deaths in Iran increased to 26, which is the highest outside of China.

While an Australian passenger on a cruise ship in Japan has been diagnosed with the virus on Friday.

The patient is the 9th Australian passenger to be tested positive on the Diamond Princess cruise ship and previously her husband was also diagnosed with the virus.

With this, Australia marks 24 cases of coronavirus.

Coronavirus is spreading worldwide now. Even the US reported its first death due to the virus, recently.

People in the US are even stocking up all the necessary items like canned food, bottled water, and disinfectants because of the spread.

Worldwide, more than 86,000 cases of coronavirus have been reported with more than  2,900 cases of deaths.

The death cases are only 2 to 3 percent and experts said that most of them were old people with low immune systems.

According to the experts, the best way to prevent the coronavirus from spreading is that everyone should wash their hands more frequently.
