Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, died in a helicopter crash.
All nine people on board couldn’t survive the crash after the Sikorsky S-76 chopper flew into a mountain in Calabasas, California.
The pilot of Kobe Bryant’s helicopter was struggling due to fog and told air traffic controllers in his last radio message that he was unable to avoid a cloud layer before plunging more than 1,000 feet into a hillside.
41-year-old Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna died alongside college baseball coach John Altobelli, his wife Keri, and their daughter Alyssa, Christina Mauser, a coach at Mamba Sports Academy, passengers Sarah and Payton Chester and Zobayan.
Bryant and his daughter, Gianna were on their way to the NBA legend’s Mamba Sports Academy youth training center in Thousand Oaks, California.
Three bodies from the crash site have been recovered so far and taken to a forensic science centre for identification. While investigators are searching for more remains.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said in a statement: “Today, the search continues in the Calabasas mountainside for the other occupants in the fatal helicopter crash.”
A photographer was on a mountain bike ride with a friend when they witnessed the crash. They captured the photos from Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas that show the helicopter engulfed in flames.
The source told SWNS: “It was foggy and we heard a low flying helicopter. Out of the fog came a helicopter and it slammed into the mountainside about 200 feet from where we were standing.”
“We were close enough that we could feel the air from the propellers. There was a huge fireball. One of the helicopter doors landed about 10 to 15 feet away from us. Helicopter parts were flying everywhere. There was very little left of the helicopter.”
People were left shocked after the tragic news surfaced online. Many celebrities mourned the death of Bryant in the helicopter crash.
