Kohl’s announced on that it will start accepting returns for items purchased on Amazon at all of its stores across the country, starting in July.
This change could have the biggest impact on your shopping: Starting this July, you can return any Amazon purchase directly a Kohl’s instead of mailing it back. The two companies initially forged a partnership in 2017 and rolled out pilots in 100 stores throughout Los Angeles, Chicago, and Milwaukee. After getting success in the test program, they’re rolling it out across all 1,158 locations.
According to a media release, “Kohl’s will accept eligible Amazon items, without a box or label, and return them for customers for free, providing additional service and convenience to Amazon customers.”
But do you know why Kohl’s would want to partner with Amazon? Like other department stores, they want to increase the number of people coming into their stores to take a look around and (hopefully) picking up a few items while they’re there. Michelle Gass, Kohl’s chief executive officer, said, “This new service is another example of how Kohl’s is delivering innovation to drive traffic to our stores and bring more relevance to our customers.”
“Amazon and Kohl’s have a shared passion in providing outstanding customer service, and this unique partnership combines Kohl’s strong nationwide store footprint and omnichannel capabilities with Amazon’s reach and customer loyalty,” Kohl’s CEO Michelle Gass said.
She added this is part of the company’s bigger plan to “drive traffic” to stores and “bring more relevance” to shoppers.
“Growth in this partnership … illustrates to us that stores are needed, even as online shopping becomes increasingly pervasive,” Jefferies analyst Randal Konik said in a research note.
“We believe Kohl’s is being strategic in the execution of its omnichannel strategy by leveraging its strength (the scale of its physical store portfolio) and the strength of its partner (Amazon’s highly-loyal customer base and innovative products).
”
We’re very excited to see how this one with Amazon turns out, and we’ll definitely going to take advantage of free returns this summer!
