Krispy Kreme is planning to go big in New York City and they mean that in every way possible with their first-ever flagship store that will be located in Times Square.
They’re planning an early 2020 opening so donut lovers in the Big Apple won’t need to wait for all that much longer.
Currently, the iconic donut company only has one small kiosk in Penn Station. But with this new store, it will be the first and only standalone Krispy Kreme in the whole of Manhattan. The Times Square branch will offer pretty much everything that a donut connoisseur would want to find in a sweet shop like this. With 4,500 square feet of space to work from, visitors will get an inside look at the donuts being made from dough to end-product.
Guests will be able to observe the bakers via stadium-style seats and see the ingredients being mixed and placed on a conveyor belt so that they can be drenched in a massive glaze waterfall. That’s right, the shop will feature a massive glaze waterfall that should give you a sugar rush just looking at it.
The store will also feature the world’s biggest Hot Light, an implement that lets customers know that the donuts are fresh. The freshness part is something that the North Carolina-based chain takes very seriously.
Krispy Kreme sees the Times Square location as becoming the company’s busiest in the world. To keep lines moving quickly, pre-packaged dozens of the Original Glazed will be sold. It will also feature grab-and-go counters to facilitate the movement of merchandise. Apart from donuts, N.Y.C. and Krispy Kreme-themed merchandise will also be sold for those who want keepsakes and souvenirs.
To cater to customers who just want the product with bothering to jostle through the inside of the store, a walk-up window will also be set up outside where pre-packed boxes of donuts and coffee can be purchased.
The store will be at the corner of 48th and Broadway, across the M&M’s store and the equally massive Olive Garden. Renderings have revealed that the store is designed to look like a big Krispy Kreme box. It also has a wraparound LED screen that will flash the company’s logo at daytime and the N.Y.C. skyline at nighttime.
Michael Tattersfield, the CEO and President of Krispy Kreme, said, “Our direction is to be the most loved sweet treat brand in the world. In the most iconic city in the world, the Krispy Kreme Times Square Flagship will showcase our brand on the global stage and inspire customer wonder. We love making awesome donuts—and New Yorkers deserve hot and fresh donuts!”
