Kylie Jenner is the founder of Kylie Cosmetics and she launched her newest endeavor, Kylie Swim, on 17 September.

Kylie Swim and Kylie Baby join Kylie Cosmetics and Kylie Skin in the beauty mogul’s rapidly growing portfolio. And ahead of its release, the expectation was certainly high for Kylie’s first-ever swimwear line.

The line contains four cutout swimsuits that cost between $80 and $85, two bikinis sold in separate parts at $45, a variety of sarongs that are all $45, and three swimwear pieces for children, which are all priced at $60. Some of the styles appear to be popular and a few of the bathing suits are currently listed as sold out on the website.

But many customers who have already received their orders have criticized the line on social media, with TikTok and Twitter flooded with negative reviews.

While the suits look good on the models on the Kylie Swim website, some people claim there’s a big difference between what they expected and the skimpy, thin suits that arrived in the box.

On TikTok, some users have gotten millions of views from their honest Kylie Swim reviews as they try on the swimwear in front of the camera.

The biggest complaint is the material the suits are made from as countless women demonstrate that the pieces are see-through. While others have drawn attention to more general issues with the quality and sizing.

Andrea Simon from Buffalo, New York, told TMRW: “My first reaction to the suit was, “Oh this looks cute” and then I pulled it out of the box and wondered “where is the rest of the suit” because it looked so tiny.”

One fan wrote on Twitter: “The quality of the Kylie Jenner Swim line is so cheap. So disappointed.”

Laura Lee, a Youtuber, said in her video: “The whole swimsuit is see-through. I don’t understand. Once I move, everything’s gonna be out. I would never wear this in public. They are the most unpractical swimsuits you could buy.”

A TikToker with the username @briannaxrenee uploaded a video of herself unboxing the Caicos bathing suit on Wednesday, which had gotten over 15 million views as of Thursday afternoon.

In the video, she films close-ups of the seams, which appear to show uneven stitchwork and tears. At one point, she holds up the bottom part of the swimsuit to the light to show the lack of a lining in the clothing.

Several commenters were equally unimpressed by how see-through the swimsuits were, particularly in light of their $80 price tag with several customer reviews on TikTok noting that the “Kylie” branding on the inside of the bathing suit could be seen right through the material.

In another video posted to TikTok, which has been viewed more than 16.4m times, Renee shared the issues with the swimwear.
The clip shows the seams coming apart at the stitching and threads hanging off while another saw Renee holding the swimsuit up to show how thin the fabric is.

A third video created by Renee about Kylie Swim, which she captioned: “The way it just keeps getting worse,” showed the same quality issues on each of the bathing suits that she received.

According to one buyer, with seemingly flimsy material and no padding or lining and just 1.5 inches of coverage on the crotch area, it became evident to many that the designs were tailored to a small and very specific body type.

Someone wrote on Reddit: “Kylie designed these for her HER body. Not the average woman. There’s no way I or anyone I know could fit into these without something slipping out.”

“I really don’t understand why she would release these given how limited bodies’ could fit into them,” it added.

On Twitter, one buyer shared a photograph of one of the swimsuits beside the caption: “fashion these days caters only to one unrealistic body type…tell me who with a normal non surgically enhanced body can wear this.”

A few of the most popular reviews come from Jessica Anderson, a TikTok user who goes by @tinytello and the founder of her own swimwear line 93 Play Street. Her experience with making swimsuits, she said, helped to inform her opinions.

She said in her first video “I personally don’t know anyone’s bodies that this would work for,” as she compared the bottom coverage of the suit to three other brands, including her own.

In the second video, which has gotten over 4.1 million views, she shared her final thoughts. “I am completely and totally disappointed that this is completely see-through.”

“I’ve seen the behind-the-scenes of what it takes to produce swimwear and the fact that no one caught that this is completely see-through blows my mind,” she added. “I’m sure they did because they had to Photoshop some of their photos to make this work. For me, it comes down to lack of integrity.”

The poor quality also felt particularly surprising to some considering Kylie’s personal wealth and the size of her company. Kylie has previously faced criticism for products within her other brand categories, most notably the walnut face scrub.

It was released with the 2019 launch of Kylie Skin for its main ingredient that proved controversial in the past. The product still remains for sale on the brand’s site.
