When retired Major NC USAF Linda Stanley developed PTSD, an adorable yellow Labrador came to her rescue.
Linda served six years in the Army and 14 years in the Air Force as a nurse.
In 2006, Linda deployed with the 32ndMedical Group to Balad, Iraq, where she worked as a trauma nurse.
She would provide medical care to injured service members.
Linda said: “Eventually though, I had a situation happen when we lost a patient and I thought to myself, I feel nothing because that’s what happens with [post-traumatic stress disorder] PTSD you start feeling nothing.”
It became so difficult for her to sleep peacefully and go out in the world to have fun.
That’s when she came to know about the Tender Loving Canines Assistance Dogs (TLCAD) – a non-profit that provides trained service dogs to service members.
Linda was on cloud nine after Willow, a yellow Labrador came in her life. Now, she is smiling again.
She shared her heartwarming story to help other service members. She is now working as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
When her story was shared online, it instantly went viral and left everyone teary-eyed.
One user wrote: ‘What a lovely story, dogs can be so amazing to us, its really very sad when they are abused they give love & ask very little of us, as all us animal lovers know. Beautiful dog by the way’.
Another said: ‘thank you for your service to our country, Linda. and thank you for your service to Linda willow. absolutely beautiful story’.
The heartwarming story really touched our hearts. Every service member sacrifices so much for the country and it’s our duty to give them something in return.
Linda is happier than ever with Willow and she totally deserves it!
