Winter has fallen. Winter fell. Or rather, Winterfell has fallen.
At least, that’s what it looks like based on the latest teaser trailer for Game of Thrones season 8 titled “Aftermath.”
The teaser has us panning through a barren landscape at Winterfell. There are no signs of life and the only signs that human life was once there are weapons strewn on the ground. But two items on the ground immediately grab one’s attention: what looks like Jaime Lannister’s golden hand and Jon Snow’s sword.
And considering that this is Game of Thrones, rest assured no character is safe. There are also hints of danger for Tyrion Lannister, Arya Stark, and brother Bran, whose belongings are also left scattered in the snow.
This is sure to leave fans on pins and needles and comments from concerned fans soon started showing up on Twitter.
One fan commented: “This is just a delayed April fools joke right….. RIGHT???”
A second one said: “Don’t you do this to me.”
Then a third wrote: “Seems like the battle of Winterfell will be lost and it’ll be overrun.”
Another said: “PLS DON’T TELL ME IT’S NEEDLE.”
“Please DON’T kill Jon again, one time is enough,” added another.
Before the teaser was released, Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, seemed to drop a pretty significant spoiler during an interview with Jimmy Fallon.
The 21-year-old Maisie was promoting the show when Fallon prodded her for even one tiny spoiler.
At first, she wouldn’t bite, saying: “I’ve decided to just keep a tight lip on everything. HBO have sent out a lot of memos recently about just saying nothing. So, there’s really nothing I could say, they would absolutely kill me.”
But Fallon wouldn’t be deterred: “You couldn’t give one little spoiler, one little hint – a crumb is all I ask.” Switching to a British accent, he added: “M’lady, just a crumb is all I’m asking for.”
She finally gave in, revealing: “During shooting, like, the final days were really emotional saying goodbye to all of the cast because when I found out that Arya died in like the second episode I was…”
Not to worry, though. It was just an “April fool’s” prank on her part. Though you never really know…
Game of Thrones season eight airs on April 14.
