This Lavish Kindergarten In China Has 483 Rainbow-Colored Glass Panels That Emit A Rotating Kaleidoscope


A futuristic Chinese kindergarten resembling a kaleidoscope is going viral on the internet.

Designed and built by SAKO Architects, the kindergarten is situated in Tianshui, China. It’s made up of concrete, glass, and steel, and has a total of 483 glass panels having ten distinctive colors.

The glass panels are placed on doors, windows and along with the handrails of stairs and corridors. The whole place lights up in a number of colors as soon as the sun starts shining.

During the night, the opposite happens. The lights from the inside make the building appear colorful to people looking from the outside.

According to the architects, the sunlight that comes into the building at daytime creates a number of colors and patterns that enhance the creative skills of children.

On the other hand, when the light shines from inside at night, the establishment creates an “impressive night scene.”

Among other notable architectural features of the building is the design of the openings. All of the openings are arched, inspired by the traditional architecture of the Loess Plateau area where the building is built.

According to the designers of the company, the arched entrances and windows make the building look similar to a birthday cake.

Among other notable characteristics of the building is a multifunctional atrium which has a heated floor for climate control.

The architects say about this atrium: “This space can function for various activities in different seasons.” The atrium is three stories high and has a glass roof that lets sunlight in.

The windows in the atrium can be opened or shut according to the needs of the prevailing weather.

The handrails in corridors and along the stairs encircling the atrium are all equipped with colored glass. The light passing from these pieces of glass makes colorful patterns on the floor.

Overlap of the colors creates new colors, different from the ten original ones.

On top of the building, there is a safe playground for the children that has a panoramic view of the city of Tianshui.

People on the internet seem to be in love with the colorful design of this kindergarten.

Someone commented on Facebook: “I’m in love.” Another person wrote: “[This] concept reminds me of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.”
